Charity organizations are non profit organizations those work with a mission to uplift the people who are underprivileged and poor. The vast gulf in the society between the rich and poor has led to the birth of charity organizations those try to source funds and distribute to the neediest. There are millions of people especially in the third world countries who are under the level of poverty line and those who cannot support themselves due to lack of opportunities and resources. These people struggle with their daily existence unsure of the tomorrow.

Charity organizations try to identify such groups of people and try to provide them with food, shelter and other basic necessities of life. Charity organizations not only provide food and shelter to the poor; they conduct various awareness programs that will teach the underprivileged about various opportunities those are available for them so that they can support themselves. In certain situations they provide them with the required training on various vocational courses and home based businesses. This way, they give them back their dignity of standing on their own legs.

Some of the charity organizations have religious motives whereas there are a number of charity organizations those do not operate on any religious motives but only have a social cause to justify their existence.

Besides these charity organizations also help people in times of some natural catastrophe. During such times, people will be disoriented and even the rich may need a certain amount of moral support. Charity organizations in such situations offer free services to restore people back to their normal life. So here they do not dole out any money or food or shelter.

As charity organizations receive lot of tax benefits, they are expected to be properly registered so that they can enjoy the available benefits. Also, they are expected to report annually to the government authorities regarding its activities. This measure is also to keep the charity scams under check. There are many fund raising scams those try to swindle money in the pretext of charity.

Also, there are many companies those set up charity organizations as part of their tax saving strategy. However, they will try to be genuine in their efforts because any bad publicity will directly affect the reputation of the company and they may have to spend a lot more to repair the damaged image which often will take years. Thus they serve two purposes at the same time. On the one end the company benefits and on the other end, the underprivileged get the necessary support.
