EducationEducation is the process of acquiring knowledge about a specific skill or a branch of study. Education in its formal sense is provided by an institution which can be a school, college, institute or by qualified individuals. The purpose of education is to develop an individual in all aspects of his or her personality.Educational system comprises of both teaching and learning. It is the responsibility of the educational system to hand down knowledge about ones culture from one generation to the next. Along with culture, values for life and life skills too have to be taught to the younger generations. Education should make the individuals as self contained people who can support themselves and to fend for their own lives. The oldest forms of educational systems took care of two basic elements, religion and culture. They tried to hand over to their religious values and cultural values. Education also should create self aware individuals who will act responsibly in the society they live and contribute in a positive way to their society. It should help the individuals to identify their talents and improve on them. Education should also help the individuals to identify their weaknesses. There are various disciplines of education and it includes, Philosophy, Psychology, Arithmetic, History, Geography, Social Science, Computer Studies, Linguistics etc. Formal education starts with children and it includes a system which will allow imparting of knowledge and the assessment of the knowledge acquired through examinations. The nature of the education is decided based on the age group. It is broadly classified as Primary Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education and Adult Education. The initial six to seven years of education is classified under primary education. Here the children are introduced to various aspects of language including reading, writing and vocabulary, grammar etc. They also acquire basic knowledge about the world. Secondary education formed the second stage of formal education. This occurred during the adolescent stage of the individuals. It covered the 7th to the 10th years of the education. Secondary education was geared towards preparing the individual for some vocational courses or for higher education. The third stage of education takes place at the universities. This third stage or higher education specializes in one specific field, training the individual with some special skill or specific area of knowledge. This includes both under graduation and graduation stages of one’s education. Though educational system is classified as primary, secondary and higher education, learning never ends until one’s death.
